Model: P174Label: Marie Christine Pavone
A fabulous Josephine Baker brooch by Marie Christine Pavone. A unique piece, as with all her pieces, it is completely hand made and hand painted in Paris. Pavone's pieces are mostly cut from old Galalith, then died, hand painted, polished and glazed. In this piece, she is wearing her famous banana costume...........Josephine Baker was a dancer and singer who became wildly popular in France during the 1920s.
In excellent unused condition, this brooch is signed on the back. Size 9 x 6cm. A rare piece this is already collectable and is set to increase in desirability as time goes by.
This material made from milk casein, hence the name "Gala" (milk) and lithos (stone), discovered in the late 19th century, is the ancestor of plastics. The work of the galalith is akin to woodworking for cutting and sanding but requires more different polishing phases to give it a shiny and silky finish
